Why your sales funnel is not converting — and what to fix first
A funnel rarely fails everywhere. Map the actual numbers at each stage, find where qualified prospects disappear and fix that constraint before adding more traffic.
Map the real funnel
Write the actual journey: traffic source → page → enquiry → qualification → sales conversation → proposal → payment → onboarding. Add real counts or conversion rates to each stage.
- Page visits
- Qualified enquiries
- Sales conversations
- Payments
Check offer-message fit
If the right people visit but do not enquire, improve offer clarity, relevance, proof and the call to action. If enquiries are poor quality, tighten targeting and qualification rather than increasing volume.
A good page makes the next decision easy to understand.
- One primary promise
- Clear audience fit
- Credible proof only
- One next action
Fix follow-up discipline
Leads often disappear after capture. Give each lead an owner, stage, next action and due date. Templates help consistency, but the response should remain relevant to the prospect's stated problem.
Measure commercial outcomes
Views and clicks are diagnostic inputs. The commercial measures are qualified leads, conversations, proposals, payments, acquisition cost and payback. Optimise the funnel around revenue, not vanity metrics.
